Hargreaves targets treble

Owen Hargreaves reckons Manchester United have a squad capable of winning three competitions this term.

The reigning champions closed the gap on Barclays Premier League leaders Arsenal to a solitary point on Saturday with a 3-0 win at Fulham, in which Hargreaves scored his first goal for the club.

United meet Lyon in the second leg of their last 16 UEFA Champions League tie on Tuesday before facing Portsmouth in the FA Cup quarter-finals next weekend.

And, with Sir Alex Ferguson having an almost fully-fit squad to select from, Hargreaves is backing the Red Devils for the treble.

“This is the big part of the season, this is where it starts getting interesting,” Hargreaves said. “There’s not many games left, so this is where you want to be.

big difference

“I’m glad I’m healthy now and that’s the key for us. When you look at the strength of the teams we put out against Arsenal, Lyon and Newcastle back-to-back, I don’t think that many clubs are able to do that.

“We can win all the competitions because of the strength of the squad

we’ve got and the age of the players.

“We’ve got some talented young players, but also some older, experienced ones like Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Edwin van der Sar. The combination could really benefit us.

“I think now the fact everyone’s healthy will make a big difference. We definitely have the ability, we just have to take it game by game, but we definitely have the potential to win in Europe.

“We’re all pieces of a puzzle. If everybody does what they do well, we can probably beat any team in the world.”
